The Other Boleyn Girl

Saw the movie today. It just came out, was a spin off of Philippa Gregory's very interesting Tudor historical fiction series. (Her next one is about Mary Queen of Scots when she was imprisoned).

Unfortunately this was a waste of time in terms of historical accuracy, costumes, set design, plot development. I love English royal history, and this was disappointing across the board.

King Henry comes across as a self-centered brutal monster, perhaps the most revealing depiction of his character ever found on the big screen.

Anne and Mary (and brother George) are without depth.

Their mother is well-done, and father and Uncle shown as simply scheming and without filial love.

In other news, OCSD Undersheriff JoAnn Galinsky was fired "released" today, and with a very flimsy excuse. The department has zero loyalty, it's rather sickening after all those hard-working years. Politics has no shame and less respect.

Young guy and I talked again... Mhmmm. We're going to be good play partners... He likes role playing, and can't say I've done it, but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to try :)

LIFE IS ABOUT AS EXCELLENT AS IT CAN BE RIGHT NOW !

I loved the Movie! I am also a descendant of Mary Boleyn, and son, Henry.

"The Tudor" series on Showtime tv pretty much left Mary Boleyn and her son, Henry out the tv version. Oh well!

Oh, that is so disappointing! I was really looking forward to seeing the film. The book was a particularly interesting take on the whole 'incest' charge. How would you say it compared to the recent series of 'The Tudors'?

Good Tuesday afternoon :

Anonymous - that must be fascinating to be an actual descendant ! I would love to go to Hever Castle. Anne and Mary and George have always fascinated me...

Cake : I didn't see the Tudor Series - I got turned off when they didn't even bother making Henry a red-head... I'm reading the book though of it, and it is so bloodthirsty and sexual. Makes me feel as though a lot of it was designed solely for television, rather than sticking to historical accuracy... Henry's callous treatment of his first wife Catherine of Aragon seemed spot on, though.

The key to enjoying this movie is to completely forget it has anything to do with history. My husband and I saw it Tuesday night and have the whole theater to ourselves.

Btw, if you love books, you can find some free ones at This Book For Free

Hi Annie!
Hooray, I didn't think you were making appearances here any more. I am so glad you are! I'll pop back over more often.

I would highly recommend giving the Showtime series "The Tudors" a chance. So.. fiction, right? With that caveat and your healthy suspension of disbelief in place, Jonathan Rhys Meyers even though he is neither tall nor auburn haired is a powerful, intensely sexual Henry. Just pop over to Flicker or Showtime's site for a few steamy excerpts. (fanning myself)... truly wonderful acting.
